- Go jump in the literal lake
Located on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, Wayzata Beach is a great spot for swimming and sunbathing. Go for a refreshing dip, explore the swimming docks, have a picnic, and go on a leisurely stroll along the shoreline.
This public beach is accessible through the marina and offers plenty of parking. There are lifeguards on duty, so you can have peace of mind knowing that your kids can swim safely in the water. There’s an outdoor shower and a public restroom in case you need to wash up.
McCormick’s Beachside, a popular concessionaire on Wayzata Beach, serves New England-style hotdogs, burgers, lobster salad rolls, and ice cream.
Drop by for the Wayzata Beach Bash held every September, which features live performances by some of the best musicians in the United States.
- Sail away
There are private charters that offer cruises on Lake Minnetonka. Shoot the breeze from a private yacht and relax on the water’s calm surface. Whether you’re on vacation or celebrating a special occasion, going on a cruise of the lake is one of the best experiences that the area has to offer. Knowledgeable cruise guides will make your trip even more memorable. Have some cocktails and appetizers on your cruise and enjoy the weather.
- Pedal on
Spanning 63 miles, the Luce Line State Trail extends from Plymouth to Cosmos in West-Central Minnesota. Built over an old railroad line, the trail is open for biking, hiking, jogging, and dog-walking. Winter activities include snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing in certain sections of the trail. Bring your bike and get a good workout while admiring views of the surrounding scenery.
- Take a hike
Immerse yourself in the scenic beauty of the Lake Minnetonka area by visiting the Three Rivers Park District, a massive development consisting of over 27,000 acres of parks, lakes, and trails. Go for a hike along the serene trails and keep an eye out for deer and other wildlife. The park’s admirable reforestation efforts have allowed native trees and shrubs to flourish.
Other activities include camping, fishing in the streams and rivers, taking your pet for a walk along the dedicated dog trails, and letting the kids burn off some excess energy on the playgrounds.
- Stroll through gardens
Go for a stroll in the Noerenberg Memorial Gardens in the Three Rivers Park District. Perched on the shores of Crystal Bay along Lake Minnetonka, it is considered among the finest gardens in Minnesota. The former site of the Noerenberg family estate, the garden features vivid blooms like peonies, magnolias, azaleas, and hydrangeas depending on the season.
- Drop by the library with a view
Spend a quiet afternoon reading in the Wayzata Library, which features a large collection of books and media. Read your favorite authors, use the public computers, and admire the artworks scattered across the library. Located on a butte that overlooks Lake Minnetonka, the library commands stunning views of the water, making it the perfect place to study and relax.
